While the Clock Blinks 11:59

I’ve quietly been working on a passion project for a long time – a zine, and one that I’d like to publish physically down the line. For now, it’ll be documented digitally as a blog. It’s an extension of my artistic practice and, in many ways, a performance art piece. It also stitches together my Libyan and American roots.

I built a stage, props, cast a cast, made costumes, did their makeup, wrote their stories, then cracked open that oyster and let it bleed into the real world and vice-versa.

It’s absurdist, ambitious, and deeply personal. Writing has always been a quiet corner of my process, oftentimes a way to process what I could never fit within a canvas. But this time, I’m putting it centre-stage. This is the most vulnerable I’ve ever felt sharing my art and truthfully, I'm still figuring out the ropes to it all. But it’s important for me to get it out there first. I’m very excited for what’s to come.

Welcome to Jink’s Diner. What's on the menu? Well, to name a few: artist interviews, poetry, and pure fiction. It’s anything and everything really. The articles will sometimes be “served” by an employee of the Diner: a cast of surreal characters who keep the coffee refilled and the stories flowing.

The first three blog-posts (following this one) will serve as a playbill, introducing the concept, the cast, and setting the scene. After that, it’s showtime…

The Diner’s open. Now, it won’t close.
